Zane turns 1 year old!

I'm this old.
Yes, we know... we are lame. It took us over 1 week to write this post and many family members have called complaining about our slack-itude. We asked ourselves why we weren't immediately posting on the blog and then realized it's the pressure. This is the one post that everyone is excited about reading, 1 year- a major milestone in Zane's life. What could you possibly want to read about?

1st here are Zane's stats:
Height: 28 inches (average)
Weight: just shy of 18lbs (yes, he is a tiny boy)
Total number of teeth: 5 (3 bottom and 2 top)
Eye color: Hazel; blue-gray with a brown spot

Words Zane can say (although he does not always use them): Mama, Dada, Egas (Vegas), up, baba (bottle), babb (bath), meee (mine - learned that one at school)

Favorite things to eat: What doesn't Zane like? You can get this kid to eat anything, especially if you are eating it too. This includes ALL vegetables (including cauliflower, brussel sprouts, lentils, and anything else that you might not think kids would like). Zane LOVES smoothies, bananas, yogurt, cheese, pizza, steak, minestrone soup, bread, green beans, grapes, cantaloupe, raspberries, blackberries, juice, chips, guacamole, hummus, pita bread, snap peas and sparkling water.

And of course... York peppermint patties, ice cream, cookies, Jello, and cupcakes (first try on his birthday)

Favorite tricks to do:
Smiles and giggles a lot
Point- Zane points and says "da" to everything
Dribble ball with feet- you saw the video, he is getting even better at it.
Pffffttth - sound you make with your tongue sticking out while blowing.
Watch out if he is eating while doing this. (we are working on this)
Plays with toys, including solo play (favorite are wooden blocks)
Play tug-a-war with Vegas
Play "Catch me if you can" with Mommy
Climb onto chairs, up stairs, and all over toys.
Turn pages and points during book time
Dances to music- bopping up and down
Sucks thumb and plays with ear at same time
Pinches your neck while you hold him - kid has a good grip
Bites (yeah... we are working on this too)
Runs, runs, runs...

Oh and by the way, Zane has discovered his, how do you say...private area. Every time there is a change of diaper, you have to struggle with him to get a new diaper on.

So how did we celebrate Zane's 1st birthday? It started with a party at his daycare, including cute little party hats from Tia, Jello jigglers and sparkling cider. It followed with a dinner at home with Grandma Mouge eating pizza and a gigantic 9 scoop brownie ice cream sundae (he did not finish it, although it was a valiant effort for a 1 year old).


The following Saturday Mama and Daddy Zeiner threw a "WE SURVIVED the FIRST YEAR" party with few kids, a keg, barbeque and tons of alcohol. It was a silly drunken college fest, except no one really got drunk. But we did have kid-themed drinks like vodka jello jigglers and of course Lindsay Lohan (alcoholic Shirley Temple). We celebrated with a gigantic cupcake decorated in theme of Dr Seuss (although the theme arose after Mama Zeiner realized how hard it was to decorate the darn thing) All in all, it was a blast. We were rusty in hosting a party, so we joked that we survived the 1st year and this party. Around 40 people attended and we were so busy at the grill and in the kitchen that we did not get to visit with friends until after the cake. Luckily our friends were not only understanding but they also are great conversationalists and they passed the time hanging with each other and being entertained by Zane.
