month 6 details, in no particular order

It's been a freakishly busy month. We know everyone was expecting a "hey, Zane's 6 months old!" post, but we haven't been able to squeeze enough time out of the day to write one.

Since Zane is turning 7 months old on 9/21, we figured it was high time to give you some details of his 6th month, before it was obsolete.

1. Zane started sleeping through the night! The worst night we have had since we left the hospital was on Zane's 6 month birthday, when he woke us up every hour on the hour. The next day we groggily devised a plan. We had crossed a threshold, deciding that we simply couldn't function much longer on less than 4 hours of sleep a night. We decided that rather than picking Zane up immediately upon a whimper at night, we were going to wait 5 minutes before picking him up. As it turns out, Zane is a 4-minute crier... then he's out like a light. Initially Gus was reluctant to tolerate any crying, as Zane's cries miraculously funnel directly into his CNS. Ultimately it was a good plan. We're all a lot happier and better rested.

2. Roll over red rover. Zane can roll over both directions without any problems.

3. The crawler. This kid does laps around the house. Seriously. When he wants a bath, he crawls into the bathroom and looks at the tub. He frequently wants to see how Vegas is doing, so he crawls over to her. She rewards him with french-terrier kisses.

4. A functioning immune system. Zane got his first cold. Dianna and Gus had a bet - Dianna thought it would take a few days for Zane to get sick, Gus thought it would take two weeks. Gus began to reevaluate his position when he saw daycare for the first time. Every kid had a plastic toy in their mouth. They all simultaneously spit out the toys, rotated one position, and put the next toy in their mouth. Gus had the sinking feeling he was gonna lose this bet in a huge way, but he actually won. The sounds Zane made when sleeping with a stopped nose didn't sound human. We learned that Zane really, really hates that blue bulb-thing we got at the hospital for suctioning his schnoz. But, he did get better, and now he's back up to full speed.

5. Carrots and Green Beans. It's insane how bad baby poop smells when you add just a little vegetable. It's freakin' naaaaaas-T! Also, apparently carrots can stain anything. There are little orange splotches all over our table.

The numbers:

Height: 26 inches
Weight: 14lb 8oz
